Last Sunday, Natasha and I took Stewie, our 17-month-old pug, to his very first festival — the 6th Annual Milwaukee Pug Fest. This event, which is advertised as a benefit for pug rescue organizations around the state, attracted pug owners from around the country. Stewie’s network of dog friends doesn’t include another pug so we didn’t know how he would react to being around 1,200 other pugs.
After being carried around for a while Stewie relaxed and seemed to have a great time.
Some of the events included the “Blessing of Pugs & Friends” where Fr. John Allen, Pastor of St. Marks Episcopal Church in South Milwaukee, blessed the dogs as a group and then individually.
The costume contests were also a big hit and were divided into two categories that included ready made and hand made costumes.
Pug races also were held, but we didn’t stay for those since Stewie was ready for a nap by that time.

Waiting to be judged in the ready made costume contest. I think this one is Yoda.

This pug is looking their best, while waiting for the judging to begin.

Waiting and waiting for the judging to begin.

This was either bad dreadlocks or an octopus costume.

Pug nurse to the rescue.

This was called Pug Pot Pie. Funny!

Waiting to be judged.

This won the hand made costumes and was something like Rub a Dub Dub Three Pugs in a Tub.

These wrestling champions won third place in the hand made costume category.
