April was a good month for photo assignments at the Wisconsin State Journal. I had the chance to photograph the Brewers home opener, the Badger Honor Flight to Washington D.C and even the daughter of Joseph Stalin.

Ashley Brown and her son Tamarione McReynolds, 4, in the dinning room of their north Madison apartment. About 14,000 Wisconsin families with little or no income, and nearly 2,000 in Dane and Rock counties alone, either are not applying for or are being wrongly denied cash benefits available through Wisconsin Works (W2).
